Root’d in Organic Farming (RiOF) aims to challenge and disrupt some of the structural inequalities that exist within Canada’s growing food sector.

Join us in exploring the wonders of organic farming through our immersive education program. Discover the principles and practices of sustainable agriculture while nurturing a deep connection with the Earth. Our program offers hands-on experience in cultivating organic crops, understanding soil health, and promoting biodiversity. Participants will learn about the importance of chemical-free farming, crop rotation, and composting. We also delve into the ethical and environmental aspects of organic farming, making it a holistic learning experience for all ages. Join us on this journey towards a healthier planet and sustainable food production.

This project aims to build a network of Black and Minoritized led growers pan-Canada who will receive relevant skills, development and training opportunities enabling them to grow commercially.

We will focus on identifying, understanding, planning and implementing a series of interventions which subsequently reduce barriers to entry into the social enterprise growing system and begin to identify appropriate land for commercial food growing purposes.

This program will promote food security by identifying and training a new generation of Black and minoritized commercial growers who are empowered to develop their own food growing systems and enterprises; grow local and indigenous food (which can be locally grown with the intent of resale). The program will encourage younger adults from Black and minoritized communities to create social enterprises, thereby creating economic opportunities.
